BOARD
MEETING MINUTES
|
Palm
Island Estates
Homeowners Association
Board Meeting
April 6, 2009
Firehouse
Attending: Board
Members Don Milroy, Ken
Conner, Kim Peacock,
Jack MacArthur, Jackie
York, Kevin Mackin,
Carol Peterson, Pat
Bieneman, Pat Gordon,
Rose Malone, Robin
Madden, and Suzy Kett.
Don called the meeting
to order at 5:02 pm.
Minutes for the March
board meeting were
accepted with a
correction to the
spelling of Ken Conner’s
name.
Treasurer’s Report was
accepted after
discussion of why D & O
Insurance is so much
higher than in past
years and why the income
tax preparation charge
by the accountants
doubled from last year.
OLD BUSINESS:
-
House numbering.
Pat B. brought in the
sample sign that was
made by Signs in One
Day. The price had
increased from $25
quoted in the spring
to $26 without
painting of the post.
Kevin will have his
sign vendor bid out
the sign, as well.
-
Community Bulletin
Board. Jack, Ken,
and Don will move the
two bulletin boards
after Curtis finishes
taking down the
Australian pine trees
at the corner.
-
County Landscaping on
both sides of bridge
not being maintained.
The area has been
mowed since the last
meeting. Also, the
eroded area behind the
native garden at the
ferry landing has been
fixed by the county.
-
Speeding on Gulf
Boulevard. The
unmanned sheriff’s
car, which is being
moved from place to
place on the island,
seems to be helping.
Don will get the info
on the speed bumps
installed at the Boca
Grande Bridge this
coming week. Don will
also talk to Dean
Beckstead to see if he
can add information to
his check-in package
that the island speed
limits are enforced.
Also, he will explore
whether signage to
that effect can be put
on the barge or at the
mainland waiting area.
-
Blind intersection
corner S Gulf
Blvd/Gulf Blvd.
Jack and Bob Bergman
will cut back the
shrubbery on the NW
corner.
-
Margaritaville party.
The board voted to
cancel the party for
this year. Since we
could not book the
venue until May, and
many people are
leaving early, we felt
that the turnout would
not be strong.
-
Upgrade web site
software / email
attachments. The
developer promised Kim
it would be done
shortly two weeks ago;
however, he has not
had time. Kim will
continue to pester
him.
-
Renaming South Gulf
Blvd.
The vote by owners on
South Gulf Blvd to
change the name did
not pass – 80% voted
against the change.
The board felt that
the county letter
explaining the name
change was not
well-written, and that
we should revisit the
name change with
homeowners in the
future.
-
Emergency off-island
transportation.
Although Don had not
contacted Bill to come
to our meeting to
explain the emergency
procedures, Carol
explained what she
knows about the
criteria used to
decide whether or not
to medi-vac patients
in emergency
situations. The
criteria used by first
responders when there
is a fall include the
age of the individual,
blood loss, loss of
consciousness,
distance fallen,
physical condition of
the individual. The
fire department on the
mainland has to
actually order the
medi-vac. Helicopters
come from either Lee
County or Tampa, and
the patients are taken
to trauma hospitals in
the same locations.
Heart attack victims
are not medi-vac’d.
We have better
services locally and
the victim can be
brought to those
services more quickly
without use of
helicopters. Stroke
victims are sometimes
medi-vac’d depending
again on specific
criteria.
NEW BUSINESS:
-
Easter Breakfast.
Don asked for
volunteers to help set
up for the Easter
breakfast at 4:00 on
Friday and for cooks
and servers to meet at
Patsy Bowen’s at 7:00
on Sunday a.m. Bob
Madden and Stu will
check out the
electrical capacity at
Patsy’s home. Rose
will put up a sign at
her home, which was
the location of the
Easter breakfast the
past few years.
-
Fire Department
requests.
-
PIE
has been asked to
clean/wax the floors
of the firehouse
community room.
Carol will find out
who did in the past.
-
We
have been asked to
purchase a projector
that hooks into a PC
for use in
training. Don will
talk to Bill
Peterson for more
specifics and check
out pricing.
Don adjourned the
meeting at 5:56 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Pat Bieneman
Secretary
