the meeting to order at
1:05 p.m.
She welcomed old and new
members
Kim Peacock read the
minutes of the 2006
Annual Meeting. Ken
Connor made a motion to
approve the minutes.
Danny Kett seconded.
Motion passed
unanimously.
Carol asked for a Roll
Call of the 2006 Board
Members present: Don
Milroy, Meryl Schaffer,
Leslie O’Hara, Kim
Peacock, Gaye Corozzo,
Kevin Mackin, Pat
Gordon, and Carol
Peterson.
Pat Gordon gave the
Treasurer’s Report. Don
moved to approve the
report. Meryl
seconded. Motion passed
unanimously.
Meryl gave an update on
membership:

Carol introduced a
report by Jay Julian,
explaining that while
the Fire and Rescue Team
operations are
unafilliated with PIE,
members might appreciate
an update. Jay reported
on activities of the
ear, giving details
about budget increases,
new equipment, education
and response times.
Cathy Sadenwater gave
the Friends of Pie
Committee Report. She
explained new
scholarship application
rules, which were
developed during 2006.
She also said that the
application cut-off date
had been May 1st,
but would now be April
15th. She
said that further
information was
available through the
website and that
counselors at Lemon Bay
High School also have
information.
Sara Fahlmark gave the
committee report in
Chairman Bob Horswill’s
absence. She said that
2006 goals were
achieved. She also
brought a handout for
members, which detailed
the Committee’s actions
and accomplishments.
Sara noted that the
committee was currently
researching dune
stabilization.
Gaye Corozzo gave a
brief report on the
Social Committee
activities and talked
about the next event on
January 27th.
Carol gave the
President’s Annual
Report. She reviewed
PIE’s charter and
discussed PIE’s
responsibilities versus
other island issues that
do not fall under PIE’s
jurisdiction. She
discussed and explained
the status of this
year’s projects:
Beach Access
Surveys
Full-time
Deputy
New Fun
Signs
House
Numbering
Water
Testing (gulf & lagoons)
Speeding in
the Lagoon
Dogs on the
Beach
Dune
Walkovers
Carol introduced Brian
Jones, Charlotte County
Animal Control Officer,
and Missy Christy to
talk about Dogs on the
Beach. They gave
presentations and
distributed handouts
regarding Pet Waste &
Water Contamination,
Charlotte County
Ordinances, and the
Public Safety and Health
hazards that Dogs on the
Beach cause. The
members participated
with many comments and
questions.
Deputy John Stewart
spoke about vandalism,
particularly golf cart
vandalism, urging
everyone to call the
Sheriff’s office.
Carol asked members for
input about issues that
the PIE board should
pursue during 2007.
Members asked that the
board follow up with
Signs on the Beach and
Walkovers.
Don moved to adjourn the
meeting. Gaye
seconded. The motion
passed, and Carol
adjourned the meeting at
2:55 p.m.
