Board Meeting

April 2, 2007

Firehouse

Attending:  Board Members Carol Peterson, Don Milroy, Suzy Kett, Bob Horswill, Pat Gordon, Leslie O’Hara, Gaye Corozzo, Meryl Shaffer, Mike Spallone, Pat Bieneman, and Kim Peacock

Carol Peterson called the meeting to order at 5:05 pm.

Carol talked to Board Members about using and following the New Rules of Roberts Rules of Order, a less cumbersome and less formal version.  She discussed the basic differences, and Members agreed.

Don moved to approve the March meeting minutes.  The Minutes were accepted.

Pat gave the Treasurer’s Report.  Don moved to approve the Report.  The Report was approved unanimously.

Suzy explained the Elvis Fundraising Event scheduled for April 21st, and asked that Board Members arrive at 6 pm, when the event begins.

Carol talked about the Pancake Breakfast at Rose & Tim Malone’s house and asked for volunteers to help set up.

Carol discussed Dogs on the Beach Signs, saying that as part of the Beach Renourishment, they are required.  Charlotte County will pay for all or part of the signs.  The County requests two additional signs.  Also, the County is hiring off-duty personnel to provide Palm Island with 120 extra hours of beach patrol.  Don will talk to Missy Christy about the signage.

Bob talked about the Native Plant Garden slated for the south side of the barge landing.  He also discussed the Mangrove Workshop scheduled for April 9th.  Carol will email members about the workshop.

Carol brought up the Dune Walkovers issue.  Members discussed the need for Dune Walkovers versus Post & Ropes to delineate and maintain recently surveyed Beach Accesses.  Mike moved to start the Post & Ropes project ASAP.  The motion passed unanimously.  Don will work on this project.  Mike will use his research and evaluate the Dune Walkovers issues.  He will suggest to the Board how they should be done.

Carol discussed the Island Action Fund, and if the Board should draft a defining document detailing what it is for and how it should be used.  Board Members also discussed asking the membership for approval to move the current funds over to the operating fund.  The issue was tabled.

Bob talked about Water Testing, saying that he thinks he should see if he could get the County to conduct water tests.  Kim moved to have Bob work with the County on this.  The motion passed unanimously.

Carol adjourned the meeting at 5:58 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kim Peacock
