BOARD MEETING MINUTES

ANNUAL PALM ISLAND ESTATES MEETING

 January 16, 2005

Valerie Guenther, President, called the meeting to order at 1:10 PM.

Station 10 and the PIE Environmental Committee gave reports.

Valerie Guenther and Meryl Schaffer gave an update on the Kosinsky Bridge replacement.

Valerie Guenther reported on the Barrier Islands Land Trust alliance with the Lemon Bay Conservancy and encouraged people to support the Conservancy.

Carol Peterson reported on the Friends of the Cape Haze Peninsula meeting.  The purpose of the meeting was to get representatives from the Cape Haze area homeowners’ associations to join together to oppose zoning variances, which would overwhelm our existing infrastructure, denigrate our environmental estuaries and waterways, and turn the peninsula into another Miami Beach.  The immediate concern is with the Winslow Harbor project.  Susie Kett asked for a vote to support Dan Kett’s appointment as the representative from PIE.  The motion was made by Meryl Schaffer and seconded by Robin Madden.  It was passed unanimously.

Valerie listed PIE’s accomplishments in 2004:

  1. PIE raised funds for legal representation to defeat Island Environmental’s sewer application and successfully negotiated a settlement with the utility.

  2. PIE representatives held regular meetings with people from Palm Island Resort in an effort to bring residents of all of Palm Island Estates together for the common good.  This has resulted in a large number of new PIE members from the north end of the islands.

  3. PIE has worked in a close partnership with the Advisory Committee as we begin to develop a community plan.

Carol Peterson announced the results of the ballots for the PIE Board of Directors and the two resolutions.  The following people were elected to the board:  Dick Aulenti, Gay Carrozo, Pat Gordon, Susan Kett, Steve Osborne, Kim Peacock and Sharon Porro.  Resolution #1 to allow the PIE Board of Directors to increase membership dues from time to time as needed and Resolution #2 to remove the requirement of the Island Poll from the by-laws, making the Poll optional as needed were both passed.

The general meeting was adjourned at 2:20 PM.

The new PIE Board of Directors convened at 2:40 PM to elect officers.  The officers for 2005 are as follows:  President: Carol Peterson; Vice-President: Dan Kett; Secretary: Cassie Ator; Treasurer: Pat Gordon.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Peterson
Secretary
